Home Inspector Job Description

Nonprofit Home Inspections is a rapidly growing home inspection company based in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. We currently have 7 licensed home inspectors and may be interested in hiring additional licensed home inspectors as we continue to grow and expand. Applicants should be currently licensed home inspectors in either Oregon or Washington or should have significant relevant experience.

Nonprofit Home Inspections is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

Nonprofit Home Inspections is unique in the home inspection industry in that it is registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the IRS. Nonprofit Home Inspections is dedicated to helping individuals make safe, financially sound and environmentally friendly housing decisions. In addition to providing outstanding home inspections for our clients, Nonprofit Home Inspections offers unbiased sewer scopes, radon testing, mold inspections, and other services designed to help our clients make the most informed housing decisions possible. In addition to providing home inspection services for the general public, Nonprofit Home Inspections provides services free of charge for other nonprofit organizations that serve low income populations including weatherization programs for seniors, domestic violence shelters and affordable housing projects. All of our services are offered on a sliding scale so that moderate and low income families can afford to have their own high quality home inspections.

Since our founding, Nonprofit Home Inspections has never once paid for advertising or solicited work from real estate agents. Our community focused efforts are built on exceptionally thorough inspections, detailed reports, strong customer service, and word of mouth referrals from previous clients.

Home Inspector Job Description

A successful applicant will take part in our industry leading apprenticeship program while working to become a Certified Master Inspector ®.

During the training period, licensed inspectors will be paid $25 per hour. Once inspecting on their own, inspectors earn a very competitive salary. Salaries increase with additional certifications and licenses related to sewer scopes, radon testing, mold testing, etc. Additional benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan match, company vehicle with gas reimbursements, paid errors and omission’s insurance, high quality professional equipment including a thermal imaging camera, significant ongoing education opportunities / paid training, paid dues to InterNACHI, paid licensing fees, etc. Unlike many other home inspection companies, our inspectors are employees and not independent contractors. As such, you will have additional personal protections including a worker’s compensation policy in case of work related accidents and unemployment insurance.

We are looking for one or more exceptional home inspectors to help fill unmet demand for our services. Applicants should have a strong background in construction, plumbing, weatherization, solar panel installation, or similar trades. Applicants must be able to work at least one day on the weekends, should have a good driving record and must be able to pass a strict FBI fingerprint background check once offered the position. Applicants must have very strong writing and communication skills, be detail oriented, have good computer skills, and have a demonstrated commitment to working for the greater public good.

This position is physically demanding and requires a significant amount of lifting and entry into small spaces including attics and crawlspaces. Our inspections are very thorough and the job requires detailed analysis of hard to reach areas that other inspection companies may simply write off as inaccessible. Applicants should not be afraid of getting dirty (although Tyvek suits and HEPA full face respirators are provided) and should be mission focused. Because of a significant investment in our inspectors / trainees and their exposure to proprietary information, a two year non-compete agreement will be required for any successful applicant.
