Before working on the fireplace, make sure that the fireplace and fireplace glass are cool to the touch. To clean the glass you will need to remove it. Instructions for removing the glass can typically be found on the fireplace manufacturer’s website. Find the model number of the fireplace, (typically found on a date plate inside the fireplace), and then search for the fireplace manual. Typically there are clips that hold the glass in place. Lay the glass down on a towel to keep it from being damaged or scratched.
We recommend using a glass cleaning product that has been specifically designed for the purpose of cleaning fireplace glass. Read and follow the directions for the cleaner that you use. Most of the time, the cleaner calls for you to rub it on and polish it off with a clean, soft rag.
When cleaning the glass, it is also important to check the glass for cracks or damage. A fireplace with cracked glass should not be used. You should also have your fireplace inspected and serviced by a qualified contractor on an annual basis. This will help ensure that the fireplace is burning properly and efficiently. A properly combusting fireplace will produce less soot, haze, and smoke which will mean that the fireplace glass stays cleaner, longer.
