Hazel Dell Home Inspection

Nonprofit Home Inspections has inspected many homes in Hazel Dell and the surrounding Clark County area. Since Hazel Dell was one of the first suburban developments constructed in the area after World War II, many homes in this area are from the 1940s-50s era. While many homes of this era are still in good condition, be sure to read some of our articles related to older homes, such as unlined chimneys, improper bathroom fans, and knob-and-tube wiring.

Hazel Dell is an unincorporated area of Clark County that is on the northern border of Vancouver city limits. Running parallel to the I-5 corridor, Hazel Dell sits in a prime suburban area with easy access to the Portland metro area. With Vancouver Lake and Burnt Bridge Creek only a few miles to the west, Hazel Dell has an abundance of outdoor activities in the immediate vicinity.

Originally settled by Oregon Country pioneers Reese and Sarah J. Anderson in 1855, Hazel Dell was named by Sarah for the abundance of filbert trees in the area. While residents briefly considered the name “Bear Gulch” due to the amounts of bears that were once common in the wild berry fields throughout the region, Hazel Dell became the accepted name for the area. While the region has continued to grow rapidly, currently with over 19,000 residents, agriculture is still apparent in the area with many U-pick farms for both fruits and vegetables. The area is famous for its summer markets and the annual “Parade of Bands”, Hazel Dell has adopted a suburban pace in an area that was mostly quiet cow pastures until the 1960’s.
